iPhone 3.0

Posted by: ahmedbaig05 on: June 18, 2009

Today at about 1 PM EST the iPhone 3.0 software update was unveiled. For iPhone users it’s free while iPod touch users have to pay $9.99.  Although this is not a huge of an update as 2.0 was, ( the addition of the app store in 2.0) it still has many features that users have been wanting for a while now. To start off, Copy/Paste. People, especially business users have been craving for this feature and it is finally here. As the name suggests this feature allows you to copy and paste text and pictures to and from applications that support it. I’ve tried it out myself on the iPod touch, and so far it seems to be working flawlessly. Another great new feature is spotlight. Spotlight is a great feature on the Mac allowing you to search your whole Mac for files, mail, apps, and more. This same feature is now in the 3.0 OS, allowing you to search in spotlight for your contacts, apps, music, videos, notes, mail, and more. This feature was definitely needed on both he iPhone and iPod touch as we all have so many apps. Other features also include having landscape keyboards in the mail and notes app, as well as the ability to search your mail and contacts. Furthermore, you can now rent/buy movies and TV shows directly to your device from the iTunes app.  In addition, you now have the ability to find your iPhone using mobile me. You basically log on to mobile me, and using the iPhone’s GPS technology, you will be able to see were your iPhone is. If you want you can delete all of your data from your iPhone through the service. The only downside is that you have to have mobile me.Finally, you now have the ability to look at your subscriptions in the YouTube app.

Zune HD

After many rumors about the Zune HD, Microsoft officially announced that this will be true. The Zune HD is a head on competitor to Apple’s iPod touch. So far we know that it will have a 3.3” OLED multitouch display, an accelerometer, an optimized version of Internet Explorer, and an HD radio tuner. The biggest thing, as the name suggests, is that this will have an HDMI out allowing you to store 720p HD content and play it back on your hi def television. It does have built in Wi-Fi allowing you to not only browse the web, but also buy content from the onboard Zune marketplace. Obviously to beat the iPod touch Microsoft will have to have some sort of “ App Store” on the Zune HD to get customers into buying this device. Lastly, the Zune HD will have integration with Xbox Live. More info in this video:

Bing.com

On June 1st, 2009 Microsoft revealed it’s new search engine: Bing. Bing is the predecessor to live.com. Bing is definitely an improvement over live.com with better search results, a better UI, and more features. Bing is not just a search engine, but everything integrated into one, from planning your vacation, to shopping for the lowest prices, to checking the latest news, and watching the latest movie trailers. It gives you many filters to sort your search results, as well as features that save time such as previews for websites, and a navigation pane when searching for images. You really have to use it to see how great it is. Check it out at :http://bing.com

Camtasia Studio

Don’t you just hate those videos on YouTube with people recording their screens with their digital cameras? To solve that you need a program to record your screen. There are many solutions for Windows through which you can record your screen with, however out of all of them Camtasia Studio is the best. It’s made by a company called TechSmith and the program is currently in version 6. It simply allows you to record your screen, whether full screen or just a selected part of your screen. Along with that you can record audio from your microphone as well as video. You can manipulate your video anywhere in your screen cast along with 3d effects and reflections. This program also installs a plug in for Microsoft PowerPoint allowing you to record full length PowerPoint presentations along with video if you wish to do so. The best part is that not only is this a screen casting program, but at the same time it’s a whole video editor as well. Think of it as an advanced version of Movie Maker. For example Movie Maker does not have multiple audio layers, picture in picture, audio enhancements, 3d video effects and etc. It supports all of the major video formats such as mp4, mpeg, mov, and wmv. In terms of exporting you have many options from 320×240 all the way up to 1280×720 HD videos which is exactly the resolution YouTube needs for high definition. Download a free trial at the Camtasia Studio Website.

Windows 7 Release Candidate

Posted by: ahmedbaig05 on: May 9, 2009

Microsoft has released the Release Candidate version of Windows 7. You can download it for free at the Windows 7 site. It’s receiving a huge buzz because you’re getting a Microsoft operating system for free, that’s good for one whole year! Also, Windows 7 is all about speed. While Vista couldn’t run on low powered computers such as net books, Windows 7 can easily run on older computers and net books. Almost everyone says that the operating system while still in release Candidate is still very stable and has great driver support as well. If you’re planning on replacing your current operating system, or installing it as a dual boot, you’ll need to burn the iso image to a DVD. I would recommend you try it out in a virtual machine. So go have a go at Windows 7!

Windows Live

With Windows Vista comes a suite of programs such as windows mail, calendar, photo gallery, and etc. However now there’s an updates version of all of these applications that is available to both Vista and XP users free of charge. http://download.live.com/ is where you will be able to find these applications. If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend you upgrade. These new applications are much more feature rich, have a cleaner user interface, and in some ways are just simply easier to use. I personally use most of the applications on an everyday basis. Windows Live Mail as my default mail client. Windows Live Photo Gallery for all of my photo organizing and viewing; I’ve switched from Picasa 3 to this application. I also use Windows Live Messenger, which is much better from the previous version of Live Messenger. Lastly, I use Windows Live Writer to write on this blog. This prevents me from going to the Word Press site every time I want to publish a new post.

Are you making a website? Do you already have a website that’s waiting to be posted on the web. Chances are you’ll need a domain name to get started. Dot com is the most common and best way, but the only problem being is that dot com’s aren’t free. If you’re looking for free site hosting solutions you might want to check out Dot TK. Dot TK unlike dot com, is a free way to get your site up and running. The only thing being is that instead of having a dot com at the end of your site, you’ll have a dot tk!
